Breast Pump Finder evaluates breast pumps using a strict four-tier evidence hierarchy to maximize factual accuracy and transparency:

This tier is the sole ground truth for vacuum limits (mmHg), battery capacities (mAh), and food-grade materials.
  • Tier 2 — Published Acoustic Standards & Metric Benchmarks: Standardized sound-level decibel measurements (dBA) and objective dimensional weighing of assembled cups and motors.
  • Tier 3 — Clinical Lactation Guidelines: Public health consensus from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine (ABM) for milk storage, flange ergonomics, and sanitation.
  • Tier 4 — Community & Market Signals: Public parent discussions across lactation communities to identify recurring comfort patterns or cleaning bottlenecks. We clearly label these qualitative observations ("Community discussions commonly mention...") and never treat online forum anecdotes or search engine rankings as verified hardware specs.

Acoustic Discretion (10 pts)

Sound levels in decibels (dBA) and stealth during phone calls and open-office work.

Cleaning & Maintenance (10 pts)

Number of washable parts per cup, dishwasher safety, and crevices prone to mold.

App & Smart Features (5 pts)

Bluetooth reliability, milk level tracking accuracy, and firmware stability.

Replacement Parts (5 pts)

Availability, part cost, and third-party silicone insert compatibility.

Value for Money (5 pts)

Feature-to-price ratio, insurance upgrade tiers, and included accessories.

3. Algorithmic Recommendations (The Finder Engine)

Our interactive Breast Pump Finder uses an 8-question decision tree that maps individual constraints (schedule, breast shape, noise priority, budget) against our audited hardware database. It uses deterministic weighted constraint matching—not generative AI guesswork—ensuring that every parent receives consistent, repeatable recommendations.

4. Editorial Scoring & Commercial Separation

We maintain strict architectural and operational isolation between our editorial research and any future commercial actions:

  • Score Independence: The 100-point rating engine and Finder recommendation algorithms have zero dependency on retailer availability, affiliate partnerships, or merchant commissions.
  • Action Layer Distinction: Editorial content answers "What is this pump, is it right for me, and what are its flaws?" Commercial slots (if enabled in the future) merely answer "Where can I buy it?" The two never mix.
  • Zero Commercial Ranking Distortion: Retailer offers or pricing feeds can never elevate or depress a pump's placement in our comparison tables, category hubs, or search results.
